A Taste of Migori, Reborn in Kansas
Our Delicious Story
Maureen’s Heritage Kitchen traces its roots to Migori, Kenya, where Robert Kaoga’s Kawaida Restaurant became a beloved community hub in the 1980s and 1990s. Known for dishes infused with Nyanza, Mombasa, and Indian spices, it was more than a restaurant; it was a family living room for the town. After Robert’s exit, the fires dimmed, but his daughter Maureen carried the legacy across the ocean. In Olathe, Kansas, she revived the spirit, blending tradition with new audiences. Today, her kitchen honors Robert’s recipes, serving both diaspora families and curious neighbors, proving that food is heritage meant to be shared
